Privacy policy
Amsterdam Cannabis Guide can be read without telling us anything about yourself. There are no accounts and no advertising. We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not track you across sites; it records things like the page you visited, the site that sent you, your country and your type of device. No advertising networks or other third-party scripts run on the public pages, and we store nothing about visitors in our database. The public pages set no cookies, so there is no cookie banner. This page explains what does happen.
Who is responsible
Yuval Shitrit, publisher of Amsterdam Cannabis Guide, administering the site from Israel — a country the European Commission recognises as providing an adequate level of data protection. Questions: hello@amsterdamcannabisguide.com.
What we process, and why
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Technical request logs (IP address, time, page path without its query string, browser type) | Keeping the site up and defending it against abuse | Days, in our hosting provider's short-term log buffer |
| Error reports when something breaks | Finding and fixing faults | As long as our error-reporting provider retains them |
| Your approximate location, if you tap "Near me" | Sorting results by distance | Not stored by us |
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
Location
The "Near me" button asks your browser for your position, and your browser asks you first. If you allow it, the coordinates are rounded to three decimal places — about 100 metres — and used to sort and filter results. They appear in the page address, so they go with any link you copy from your browser's address bar; the Share button on a shop's page shares only that shop's plain address, without them. They are removed from our logs and error reports, but they remain in your own browser history and in any link you share.
A starting point you choose, by tapping the map or picking a place from the list, is handled the same way. It is a point you picked, not your position.
Search
While you type in the search field, what you have typed is sent to us to suggest matching shops and products, with your starting point if you chose one, so a suggestion can say how far away a shop is. It is used for the answer. Our request logs record the page path without it; an error report about a failed request can include it.
Processors
| Provider | Role | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | DNS, HTTPS, protection against abuse, and counting visits | Global network; EU data protection terms |
| Fly.io | Runs the website | Amsterdam |
| Neon | The database of coffeeshops and menus | Frankfurt |
| Sentry | Error reports | European Union region |
| UptimeRobot | Checks every few minutes that the site is up | Requests a status page only |
Each acts on our instructions. We do not sell or share data with anyone else.
Cookies
The public pages set no cookies and store nothing in your browser, so there is no cookie banner. The map keeps its view in the part of the page address after "#", which your browser does not send to us. The private staff area, which visitors cannot reach, uses a login session cookie and a form-security cookie; both are strictly necessary.
Links to other sites
Some pages link elsewhere: a shop's own website, its Instagram, and a map service for directions. Nothing is sent to them until you follow a link. What those sites do with your visit is governed by their own privacy policies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can request access to your personal data, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability, and you can complain to a supervisory authority — in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
In practice we hold almost nothing that identifies you. If you write to hello@amsterdamcannabisguide.com with the approximate time of your visit and your IP address, we can look for those entries and delete them where they still exist.
Children
The site concerns products sold only to adults and is not intended for people under 18.
